New Federal Cybersecurity Threat Tracking Center Launched

The White House has announced the creation of a new federal unit tasked with coordinating the sharing of cyber threat information. No single federal agency is currently tasked with creating assessments of cyber threats and sharing information between existing cybersecurity units of the federal government. The new Cyber Threat Intelligence Integration Center, or CTIIC, is intended to fill this gap. The center will be tasked with consolidating, analyzing and assessing information from existing governmental authorities, including the Department of Homeland Security, the National Security Agency and the FBI, and ensuring that information about threats is shared throughout the federal agencies tasked with preventing cyber attacks.

The CTIIC will be a small agency, with no intelligence gathering operations of its own. It is modeled after the National Counterterrorism Center and is expected to play a similar role. Like the National Counterterrorism Center, the CTIIC will operate under the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
